Kim Chiu is Back on Top with ‘My Binondo Girl’

Kim Chiu remains to be the country’s primetime princess as her newest teleserye “My Binondo Girl” instantly scored a national TV rating of 29.6% during its premiere telecast last Monday (Aug 22) beating GMA’s “Munting Heredera” which rated only 22.3%, according to data from Kantar Media.

Even before “My Binondo Girl” started airing on TV, it had trended on Twitter the week before its airing along with ABS-CBN’s other series “Maria La del Bario” and the recently concluded “Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin.”

The whole nation is starting to be captivated by the Jade-Onyx tandem who was portrayed as kids by Mutya Orquia and Izzy Canillo as young Onyx to Kim Chiu and newest leading man, Jolo Revilla whose chemistry is simply astounding.

Despite dedicating everything to daughter Jade, Zheny (Aiai delas Alas), fails to erase the longing her daughter feels for her Chinese father, Chen Sy ( Richard Yap) who only recognizes one child, his first born son, Yuan.

Jade will continue to grip the hearts of many as she struggles to earn her Chinese father’s affection and acceptance even if it means disguising as her long gone brother, Yuan.

Don’t miss the arrival of two more boys who would complicate Jade’s life further, Trevor Wu (Matteo Gudecelli) who would fall in love with Jade at first sight and Andy Wu (Xian Lim) who would become Yuan’s rival in managing ChenJean chain of restaurants.

“My Binondo Girl” airs weeknights after “100 Days to Heaven” on ABS-CBN.

“Kami ni Gerald, we’re good friends. Nagkakamustahan kami.”

Kim Chiu, Shared the Lessons She Learned from her Family and Heartaches!

The star of ABS-CBN's newest teleserye on primetime, My Binondo Girl, Kim Chiu has been emotional with her interview with Boy Abunda on the Buzz. The Primetime princess shared the lessons she learned in life, about her family and her breakup with Gerald.

Kim had been transparent about what she really felt during the interview. She is one of the true people in the showbiz industry. She is not afraid to show her emotions, to let people know what she truly felt and for answering the interview questions as honest as she can.

The young actress said that she does not want to be buried in debt again. She came from a rich Chinese family but were bankrupt which made her mother flew away and his father to work very hard. She came from a broken family but she said that she has no bitterness at all and that she was thankful for all of the good things that happened to her and that she has her grandmother and her sisters to support her.

She shared that when she and Gerald had broken up, she really cried a lot. But then she does not hate him nor hold grudges against him and that they still remained friends. And with the help of her family, friends and fans, she was able to stand up and come up stronger than ever.

So remember guys, work hard and avoid lending money so as not to pile up debts that could ruin you and your family. And when someone breaks your heart, do not hesitate to cry and let it all out. Its not the end of the world. Eventually you can recover and find someone better who deserves you in every way.

Take it from Kim!

Gerald Anderson admits he feels nervous going solo in his career without Kim Chiu

Currently gearing up for his follow-up movie with Sarah Geronimo after the success of Catch Me, I’m in Love, Gerald Anderson admitted he feels the same apprehension that his former onscreen partner Kim Chiu feels now that they’ve embarked on separate projects. “Siyempre ganun din sa akin. Ganun talaga eh, sanay kami na magkasama kami lagi sa mgashow so ito yung first time na magkahiwalay kami,” he shared during the launch of the Puma FAAS shoe line last August 20 at the TriNoMa Mall in Quezon City. The 22-year-old Fil-Am actor once again showed off his athletic side as he finished the obstacle course set up by Puma in just 5.5 seconds in his FAAS running shoes.

Gerald said he is happy with the way Kim’s career is going now especially after seeing her in her new primetime series My Binondo Girl which premiered just last week. “Sobrang cute. Sobra akong nakyu-cute-an sa trailer nila. Nagulat ako actually kasi hindi ko masyado familiar sa kuwento niya and then nung nakita ko parang sobrang cute,” he admitted.

Now that he is focused on his upcoming movie project with Sarah, Gerald admitted he is excited to start working with the Popstar Princess again. “Nag-storycon na kami for our new movie. Inaayos na yung scheduleat kuwento. Sila na naman yung writers namin sa last movie namin so excited kami. DJ si Sarah dito at ako ay isang normal na lalake lang (laughs). Para kaming aso’t pusa dito so cute siya.  Magbibigay si Sarah ng advicetungkol sa love. Sobra na nga kaming excited para masimulan yung movie. Para magsama-sama ulit kami,” shared Puma’s current celebrity ambassador.

Although he admitted there is pressure once again for them to surpass the success of their first movie. Gerald said he would rather focus on providing a good quality film that everybody will enjoy. “Siyempre okay lang na may pressure para mataas yung standards. Kahit nung unang movie namin mataas na yung standards for us and sobra kaming na-pressure pero sa tingin ko lahat naman kami nagwo-work, mas nagfo-focus kami under the pressure. Excited ako sa kuwento, yung teamwork na gagawin namin dito para mapaganda yung movie.Siyempre this time mas madali na para sa aming dalawa ni Sarah kasi nagsama na kami sa isang movie.Nakapag-adjust naman kami. Kumbaga sanay na kami at mas kumportable na kami sa isa’t isa,” he added.

When asked if and when the chemistry that they project onscreen translates offscreen as well, would he ever plan to court his leading lady? “Tingnan natin. Sa ngayon, siyempre siyempre mas gusto ko muna makilala siya at makilala niya ako. Basta okay naman ako ngayon. Masaya ako kasi madaming work,” he said.

Bracingly ‘liberated’ tack for ‘Binondo’s’ protagonist

Kim Chiu’s new teleserye, “My Binondo Girl,” has an interesting and even potentially instructive plot premise: In the Chinoy world, sons are valued above all else, so she is made to “pass” for a boy to assure her a life of comfort and wealth.

Unfortunately, the new TV series’ first telecasts began with an overlong “back story” before Kim’s young-adult character entered the scene. It started with her parents’ romance and early marriage, and the distracting detour got the show off to a decidedly bumpy start.

For one thing, AiAi delas Alas  was patently too old to be believable as the child title character’s young mother. And, her “muggy” attempts to be funny came off as old-hat.

Crying scenes

As for her “dramatic” and crying scenes, they were dismally strident, shallow and/or unsympathetic. Yes, we know that we shouldn’t expect exceptional acting from a teleserye, but surely, a passably proficient performance isn’t too much to ask for?

The saving grace in the show’s first week of telecasts is the relatively natural and felt portrayal turned in by the child actress who plays Kim’s character as a tot.

We recall seeing the young charmer in another TV drama series (“Mutya”), so we know that she’s no overnight sensation. But, she’s been able to retain her natural acting “attack,” unlike many other “experienced” child performers, who all too quickly turn in portrayals that are much too self-conscious, cloying and “knowing.”

Appearance

By the third telecast, Kim’s young-adult character finally makes an appearance, as a tomboy who wants to be able to do anything a man does. This is a bracingly radical, new tack for a teleserye protagonist to take, and it should be celebrated, because it gives young female viewers a “liberated” role model to emulate.

It’s definitely better and more proactive than all of the sweet, exquisitely suffering heroines who have come before, and (if believably dramatized) could end up as the new teleserye’s  best contribution in terms of forward-looking and tradition-smashing themes and central characters are concerned.

The third telecast also introduced the young-adult persona of Kim’s character’s childhood chum, played by Jolo Revilla. The way the telecast went, it looked like both Kim and Jolo secretly liked each other a whole lot, but refused to admit their mutual attraction, because it could sour up their friendship.

Jolo did his best to make his character interesting, but his portrayal wasn’t significantly different from his performances in past TV shows, so the result was underwhelming.

Feminine side

As for Kim, her first appearance had her doing a lot of “tomboy” stuff, but her being a woman at heart was underscored by a scene that had her comb her mane of hair and reminisce about the time when her best friend admitted that he had a crush on her.

We suppose that this feminine side to her character had to be clearly established, because she would soon have to pretend to be a young man (with a moustache, yet), in keeping with the series’ provocative theme.

Will Kim be able to pull the difficult gender-bending challenge off? The possibility of that happening in a believable way is iffy, due to the young actress’ lean, even gaunt frame and thin voice, which have limited the effectivity of her portrayals, even in less demanding female roles.

But, we hope that Kim and the show’s support team will be able to pull that key switcheroo off, so that, when it happens, viewers can simply sit back and enjoy it, instead of having to consciously suspend their disbelief every step of the way.

Ever-resilient Kim Chiu continues to strive hard for her family

Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition winner, Kim Chiu, has come a long way from being a teenage success story to one of the most bankable stars of this generation. She continues to walk along the roads of success with her family as her source of inspiration.
Considered as one of the most sought-after young actresses of today, Kim, was able to build a home for her and her siblings with her earnings from her numerous television and movie projects, countless shows in and out of the country, not to mention, her many endorsements from various brands.
In the July issue of Star Studio Magazine, Kim shared her dream house that she personally designed with the help of her interior decorator. The multi-million house, which settles on a 600 meter lot in a posh village in Quezon City, was adorned by feng shui good luck figures from the wooden doors to the dining chairs. It also has its own pool, a sound proof mini-theater, make-up salon, modern kitchen, play room, and a cozy entertainment area.
Kim’s siblings, Lakambini, Twinkle, and William, also have their own rooms in the house apart from the actress’ lavishly-designed room. Known for her love of anything pink, it is no wonder that Kim’s spacious room used an eye-catching pink as its key color. Described as a loft within a home, Kim’s room has a Jacuzzi and a sauna in her bathroom. The third floor is a walk-in closet that displays all of her designer bags, clothes, accessories, and shoes.
During an interview on Kris TV last July 8, Kim shared with host Kris Aquino that it was her long time dream to build a home that her family can call their own. Tearful, the 21-year old actress said she still could not believe that she is finally living in her dream house.
She is also grateful for her career especially her supporters because if not for them, she would not be having all the blessings she has right now.
It was also through show business that the young actress was able to graduate from high school and send her other siblings to school. Eyeing a course in business in college on 2012, Kim was happy to say in a report from Push.com.ph posted April 13, 2011, that her dreams are slowly beginning to come true.
“Tapos ko na yung pag-aaral ko, natayo ko na yung dream house ko. Yung mga kapatid ko unti-unti na silang natatapos ng pag-aaral, isa na lang, graduate na rin yung isa so ‘yun, masaya naman. Kapag may pangarap naman ang isang tao, kapag gusto mo talaga, maaabot mo naman iyon, yun ang motto ko sa buhay.”
Proud of all her achievements, Kim elaborated during her interview with Kris that she wanted to provide a house for her family because they had to share one bed that was in the same room as the kitchen, dining room, and the comfort room before.
Growing up with an absentee father and a mother who left her and her siblings when she was 12, Kim said that they were raised by their relatives so they had to move from Tacloban City, to Cebu, and Mindoro, from time to time. When asked of her parents, the Filipino-Chinese actress became emotional last August 14, 2011 in The Buzz when she revealed to the host, Boy Abunda that she still has not heard from her parents until now.
Although she had long forgiven her parents, Kim said that she does not want her future family to experience what she has gone through. She believes that parents are the ones that should emulate a good example to their kids.
Recalling Kim’s controversial split-up last year with her former love team partner and rumored boyfriend, Gerald Anderson, Kim bravely answered Abunda regarding her feelings about being separated from a partnership that has gained an overwhelming support from fans not only in the Philippines, but abroad as well.
Kim said that she was thankful for every experience in love
including the hurt she felt. The actress also stressed
that her detachment from Gerald had made her stronger person which was why she did not hold grudges against anyone. She even that she and Gerald are doing “okay” and that her friendship with the actor even grew deeper than it was before.

“Hanggang ngayon nandiyan siya, ‘pag may problema ako, ‘pag ‘di ko na kaya, kinakausap ko siya. Nakikinig siya.”
Top billing a TV series for the first time without Gerald via My Binondo Girl, Kim said in an interview with Push.com.ph last August 4, 2011 that she is thankful that her fans still support her and Gerald’s career even though they are being paired with other actors and will not be working together for a while. Kim is paired to Xian Lim, Matteo Guidicelli, and Jolo Revilla in the newest primetime offering of ABS-CBN.

In My Binondo Girl, Kim plays the role of Jane, a daughter of a Chinese man who decided to pretend to be a man to win his father’s approval and affection. Not only does it mirror the Chinese community living in Binondo, Manila, My Binondo Girl also features a roster of award-winning actors like Gina Pareño, Ai-Ai delas Alas, and Cherry Pie Picache. It recently premiered last August 23.

Kim Chiu was admittedly star-struck when she finally met Batangas Governor Vilma Santos during the story conference of their movie The Healing last August 23 at the ABS-CBN compound. She could hardly believe that it has been a year since she reenacted a scene from The Dolzura Cortez story for Vilma’s TV special. Her portrayal was so remarkable that it paved the way for them to have a movie together.

Adding to Kim’s excitement for this huge project is the fact that Vilma is very vocal about her admiration of the young star’s accomplishments in life. “Ito na naman ako, wala akong masabi kanina pa. Masaya and excitedako. It’s something new for me to do a horror movie under Star Cinema and to work with Ate Vi. Nahihiya ako sa kanya. First time ko din makakatrabaho si Direk Chito Roño. Magaling siya sa mga suspense and horror movies so excited ako. Nakakatuwa and nakaka-touch na ako ang napili para sa movie na ito.”

Although she’s still overwhelmed by Vilma’s mere presence, Kim is looking forward to their bonding time on the set once they start shooting in October. “Busog na busog naman ako sa papuri. Alam ko madami akong matututunan sa shooting namin, sa personal life at sa pag-arte kasi siyempre matalinong-matalino si Ate Vi.Habang matagal kaming magkasama, hindi lang yung alam ko ngayon sa buhay, siguradong mas malalim pa yung matututunan ko.”

Kim added that she won’t really miss having a love team in this movie since she already has enough leading men in her ongoing soap, My Binondo Girl.

KIM CHIU IS one of the biggest stars of her generation.
Pinatawa niya tayo when she played Brainy Indi in her first movie First Day High, pinakilig niya tayo bilang si Alex Girl sa I’ve Fallen for You, pinatapang niya tayo sa ngalan ng pag-ibig as Ysa Benitez in I Love You Goodbye, at pinaluha niya tayo sa Till My Heartaches End bilang si Agnes Garcia.
Kim is back with another exciting teleserye My Binondo Girl na gabi-gabi na nating napapanood sa ABS-CBN. She plays a dual role in the series na ang istorya ay tungkol sa isang babae na nagngangalang Jade na nagkunwaring siya ang kapatid niyang lalaki na si Yuan para makuha ang pagmamahal ng kanilang ama.
Although she is busy, Kim reveals that she is ready to fall in love again. “Alam mo okay na ako at ready na [to fall in love].

Kim Chiu serves as guest host on I Dare You

"Primetime princess Kim Chiu will take on the challenge of being a guest host in this week's I Dare You. Together with Jericho Rosales and Iya Villania, the My Binondo Girl lead star will challenge ABS-CBN child stars Sharlene San Pedro, Bugoy Carino, Izzy Carillo, Jairus Aquino, and Aimee Nobleza to perform tasks as zoo keepers and tour guides for a day.

"More importantly, the kids will be doing it for a cause: to help a 12-year old Aeta named Juvilyn Melicia and the school she is attending. Tune in as the kids learn the importance of being responsible and show their love for animals in the top-rating reality show I Dare You on weekday afternoons after The Fierce Wife on ABS-CBN."

Bracingly ‘liberated’ tack for ‘Binondo’s’ protagonist

Sam: Kim's not avoiding me

Hunk actor Sam Milby has denied reports that actress Kim Chiu is giving him the cold shoulder.
Reports that Chiu is avoiding Milby surfaced amid rumors romantically linking the former to the latter.
In an interview with ABS-CBN's "Showbiz News Ngayon," Milby said Chiu even invited him to watch the premiere of her show, "My Binondo Girl."
"Not at all. Hindi. Actually nag-premiere 'yung 'My Binondo Girl' in-invite niya ako. Kaso hindi naman ako nakapunta," he said.
Milby added that there is no reason for them to avoid each other.
"Yes, magkaibigan pa rin kami. Bakit naman kami magkakailangan? Hindi lang ako nakasipot kasi I was not able to. But I wanted to, siyempre gusto kong suportahan ang show niya," he explained.
It all started when Queen of All Media Kris Aquino teased Milby to Chiu, who is still single after her controversial breakup with Gerald Anderson last year.
Milby was last linked to actress Anne Curtis.

Gerald admits spending time with Kim anew

Actor Gerald Anderson confirmed that he and long-time on-screen partner Kim Chiu have recently spent time together in a mall in Quezon City.
In an interview during a press conference for his endorsement, Puma shoes and sportswear, Anderson said he was with Chiu at Eastwood.
"Yeah totoo 'yan. Nagkita kami sa Eastwood," he told members of entertainment media.
He was quick to add, though, that they were with some of their common friends.
"[It was] A friendly get-together, nagkita kami doon. Wala, nagkita lang po kami sa Eastwood. Wala pong date saka madami kami, sobrang dami kami," he explained.
Anderson also shared his happiness that he and Chiu are good friends even after their so-called breakup last year.
Both have repeatedly said they never became a couple, with Anderson saying that what they had was a "special relationship".

Kim looking for a man ‘who’ll take care of me’

Kim Chiu, who called it quits with boyfriend Gerald Anderson late last year, is in no rush to fall in love again, although she gave subtle hints about her kind of man.
“Looks aren’t important, but there has to be a spark between us,” Kim, 21, told writers during a media gathering for her latest TV series, “My Binondo Girl” on ABS-CBN. “He doesn’t have to be that handsome, but he has to be kind and loving… someone who will take care of me.”
After teaming up with Gerald in most of her TV and film projects, Kim said she was initially nervous having to work with other leading men. For the series, she is being paired with three young actors—Jolo Revilla, Xian Lim and Matteo Guidicelli.
Not yet close
“We’re not that close yet, but we will definitely get a lot of bonding time on the set,” she said. “They’re all good actors. I hope that will be enough for the series to be successful.”
“My Binondo Girl,” which premieres August 22, is about a Filipino-Chinese girl named Jade Dimaguiba, who pretends to be a boy to get her father’s attention. Malu Sevilla directs.
Kim said the role is the most challenging for her so far. She’s a totally girly girl, who likes all things pink. “I never imagined I’d be acting like a boy,” she added.
To prepare for the role, she had to watch a lot of movies with a similar theme.
How effective is the “boy” Kim? She related a funny incident in Hong Kong, where they shot for four days. “I was on a break and looking at the knickknacks being sold in a bazaar when a group of young Chinese girls started staring at me. They all giggled when I smiled back at them. I guess I’d pass off as a good-looking boy, after all.”
Kim also said she found the residents of Binondo, a community in Manila primarily populated by ethnic Chinese, to be quite warm and accommodating. “They learned from one of my TV intervews that I loved siomai, so whenever I’m there, they send me all kinds of siomai—big, small, in color green, yellow and white,” the actress said. “They also keep saying they’re fond of me.”
Kim was last seen in the drama series “Kung Tayo’y Magkakalayo” in September 2010. The actress said she’s now feeling the pressure of having to play the title role in a prime-time show. “I’m nervous. I’m not sure if viewers would like my work the way they did last year, especially now that I won’t be with Gerald anymore,” she said. “Then again, the story is very beautiful, the cast is very credible and the production team, reliable. We can’t go wrong.”
The show also features Gina Pareño, Cherry Pie Picache, Ai Ai de las Alas, Glydel Mercado, Ricardo Cepeda, Laureen Uy and Richard Yap.

Vilma, Kim to star in horror movie

STAR for all Seasons Vilma Santos confirmed she will be doing a movie with Primetime Princess Kim Chiu.
According to the veteran actress, they are set to shoot the film this September and it would be a horror suspense flick.
"May commitment talaga ako sa Star Cinema. Dapat nga kay Sharon but unfortunately hindi nagtutugma yung schedule namin kaya with Kim Chiu na."

The said project will be directed by Chito Rono, the man behind Kris Aquino's box-office hit horror movies "Feng Shui" in 2004 and "Sukob" in 2006.
In a prior interview with Kim, she told Sun.Star and other entertainment reporters that she's excited to work with Vilma in an upcoming project.
She is also a bit nervous knowing that she will share the big screen with the Star for all Seasons.

The said project will be Kim's big screen comeback after the hit romantic drama "Til My Heartaches End" with perennial love team Gerald Anderson in October of last year.
